CCSE Practice is an independent study site for the CCSE, the civics and culture test most people need to pass to get Spanish nationality by residence. It offers practice questions in English, with every answer explained. This page says who runs it, how the questions are made, and what to do if you find something wrong.
01Who runs CCSE Practice
CCSE Practice is built and run by Trevor Mulder, as a sole proprietor: a small independent business based in Alberta, Canada. It has no connection to the Instituto Cervantes, the Government of Spain, any exam centre or any academy.
Trevor also builds practice-question sites for trade certification exams. The lesson from that work carries straight over: practice tells you something real only when it is built the way the exam is built.
02Why it exists
Most CCSE study material is in Spanish. Many applicants, especially people who moved to Spain from English-speaking countries, find it easier to learn the facts first in a language they read fluently. CCSE Practice covers the five CCSE topics in English, explains why each answer is right or wrong, and lets you take timed 25-question practice tests like the real one. It costs one payment, not a subscription.
03The CCSE in brief
The CCSE (Conocimientos Constitucionales y Socioculturales de España) is set and run by the Instituto Cervantes. The exam itself is in Spanish.
- 25 questions in 45 minutes. You pass with 15 correct answers (60 %). Wrong or blank answers cost nothing.
- Five tareas (topics). Each sitting draws a fixed number of questions from each, shown below.
- Exam fee: €85, paid to the Instituto Cervantes. There are about 10 sittings a year at approved exam centres.
- Official questions. The exam's questions come from the Instituto Cervantes manual, which it publishes free each year.
| Tarea | Topic | Per exam | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tarea 1 | Government, law and civic participation (Gobierno, legislación y participación ciudadana) | 10 | Three options |
| Tarea 2 | Fundamental rights and duties (Derechos y deberes fundamentales) | 3 | True / false |
| Tarea 3 | Territorial organization, physical and political geography (Organización territorial de España. Geografía física y política) | 2 | Three options |
| Tarea 4 | Spanish culture and history (Cultura e historia de España) | 3 | Three options |
| Tarea 5 | Spanish society (Sociedad española) | 7 | Three options |
Always check the current rules, dates and exemptions on the Instituto Cervantes CCSE site before you book.
04How our questions are made
Our questions are original practice questions in English, written to the five published CCSE topics. They are not the questions of the official manual, and they are not translations of it. Each fact is checked against a public primary source, such as the Spanish Constitution as published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado, or official government and statistics websites.
Questions follow the exam's formats: three options for tareas 1, 3, 4 and 5, true or false for tarea 2. Every option comes with an explanation of why it is right or wrong.
Questions are drafted with AI language models and then checked in a separate pass, also run with AI models: the checker answers each question without seeing the key, the facts are traced back to a source, and each wrong option is confirmed to be genuinely wrong. A question that cannot be traced to a source is rewritten or held back. We say this plainly because you should know how a study tool is made before you trust it.
Study the official manual too. The real exam asks the manual's questions, in Spanish. Our questions help you learn the content in English; the free official manual lets you get used to the exact Spanish wording you will see on the day.
05Mistakes and corrections
If you think a question is wrong or out of date, tell us. Use the contact page and choose "Report a question error", or email support@ccsepractice.com with the question's ID from the top of the card. Every report is checked against the source, and a wrong question is fixed.
06What CCSE Practice is not
CCSEPractice is an independent study site. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Instituto Cervantes or the Government of Spain. Our questions are original practice questions in English, written to the published CCSE topics; they are not the questions of the official Instituto Cervantes manual or the exam. Study the free official manual too. The official manual is free on the Instituto Cervantes website.
We have no access to the exam, and we do not reproduce or translate the official manual. We do not publish pass rates we cannot back up, and we do not promise a result on exam day.
07How the site is paid for
The sample quiz is free with no account. The full question bank is paid: the CCSE Pass is €9.99, VAT included, a one-time payment for 120 days of access, not a subscription. If it isn't the right fit, the refund policy gives your money back in full within 14 days of purchase. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your full card number.
How we handle your information is set out in the privacy policy. Questions about any of this: contact us.
